Governors

The Governors work in conjunction with the headteacher and members of the school staff to ensure that schools are teaching our children's successfully and raising standards. Governing bodies exist so that schools are publicly accountable to parents, the LA and the local community about what they do, the results they receive, and how the resources are allocated.

A governors is someone who:

  • is a volunteer;
  • takes care of teaching, learning and children;
  • represents people with a key interest in the school, including parents, staff, the local community and the LA;
  • is a member of a team that accepts responsibility for everything the school does;
  • has the time to give to meetings and other events where necessary;
  • is willing to learn;
  • can act as a critical friend who supports the school but can also challenge and ask questions about how the school works and the standards it achieves;
  • is a link between parents, the local community, the school and the LA
